Daniel Vincent Genod

The French gliding community is mourning the loss of Daniel Vincent-Genod, who died on Thursday, July 9th, following an accident during the French Gliding Championship at Vinon-sur-Verdon.

According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred near Tête de Siguret during a competition flight. Daniel was flying a Schleicher AS 33 when the glider came down. He was alone on board. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and an investigation is expected to follow the standard process for this kind of event in French civil aviation.

Vinon-sur-Verdon has long been regarded as one of the finest gliding sites in Europe, drawing pilots from across France and beyond. This year's championship, running from July 5th to 11th, brought together around fifty pilots competing in the 18m and Open classes.

Daniel was a familiar and active figure within the French gliding community. He competed regularly at national level, including in recent French Championships, and had also taken on organisational responsibilities for these events, helping coordinate entries and communicate with fellow competitors. Those who flew alongside him and those who worked with him on the ground will remember his dedication to the sport.

The Fédération Française de Vol en Planeur issued a statment saying.

The French Gliding Federation (FFVP) learned with deep sadness of the passing of Daniel Vincent-Genod, which occurred on Thursday, July 9th, during the French Championships held in Vinon.

The FFVP extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, the Beynes club, which he presided over, the Vinon club, and all the participants in the championship.

Daniel was a passionate and deeply committed glider pilot, known and appreciated by the entire community.

He made his first glider flights in Challes-les-Eaux, before becoming a top-level competitor and representing France. As president of the Beynes club, he gave his time and energy tirelessly. Organizer of several French Championships, he also dedicated himself with great generosity to the Federation and the development of gliding.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, Maryvonne, his two sons, Brice and Mickael, as well as his family and all the members of the Beynes gliding club.

During this difficult time, the entire gliding community offers them its support, affection, and profound sympathy.
